The accommodation options in Thailand are very diverse – everyone will find something suitable for their budget. When we first arrived in the “Land of Smiles” nine years ago, we did not have even a single reservation made in advance. We booked all our bungalows/hostels/hotels/guesthouses while already in a specific location. For example, we stayed in a guesthouse on Khao San Road in Bangkok. We didn’t have to attend any of the parties that this street is famous for. We could feel the epicenter of the party right in our room. In Kanchanaburi, we rented a bungalow on the River Kwai. It was near the bridge that has become a symbol of Japanese brutality during World War II. We won’t discuss prices now, as we didn’t need much to be happy back then. Additionally the Polish złoty was stronger at that time.
When did Adam join us…
Before our trip to Thailand with 8-month-old and later 18-month-old Adam, we opted for renting apartments. We also started booking accommodations in advance—usually a few days ahead. In an apartment, it’s easier to sterilize a bottle or warm up a jar of food. The condominiums where we stayed (all with access to a swimming pool and gym) cost was very assordable. However, we were never drawn to Phuket or Krabi. We visited places like Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Hua Hin, and Cha-am. They are less touristy, so prices were also not inflated.
Where did we stay in Chiang Mai?
In Chiang Mai, we wanted an apartment not too far from the city center, with access to a swimming pool and gym. We decided on a condominium that had opened just two months earlier, so everything sparkled with novelty. On the 18th floor, there was a 150-meter long pool with a panoramic view of the mountains and the city (provided the air was clean, as air quality in Chiang Mai can be very, very polluted due to local grass burning). Less than three weeks before our arrival, the concentration of PM 2.5 particles had exceeded WHO norms by more than 30 times. People were staying indoors, hospitals were overwhelmed, and those who could escaped to the southern part of the country. We were lucky that the rainy season arrived early, and heavy rains cleared the terrible air quality. The visibility from above was therefore excellent.
The top floor of the condominium also featured a gym, a yoga room, a sauna, a coworking space, and a conference room. In the nearly 50-square-meter apartment we rented, there was a kitchenette, dishes, a TV with Netflix. A washing machine, and a balcony were also very useful. Everything was tastefully and functionally furnished. Next to the building was a 7-Eleven. We were about a kilometer away from the night market. The location of the condominium was also good in relation to the airport. Just a few kilometers away, and we paid around 60 THB (about 8 PLN) for a taxi from the airport. The historic center was just over 1 km away.
We were paying 1500 THB per night during the week and 1800 THB on weekends for this apartment. We initially booked it for 3 days, but we extended our stay by another 8 days.
If you’re planning to visit Chiang Mai and want to stay in the same place as we did; we’re sharing the link to Booking HERE.
If this offer is no longer available, try searching for the name of the condominium on Booking. Many owners offer their apartments for rent in that building.
